Assistant Controller
Description
Responsible for managing day-to-day accounting activities, periodic financial reporting and ensuring an accurate and timely month-end close. Position reports to the President/ CFO.
Accounting
- Performs and is responsible for an accurate and timely month-end close
- Prepares and provides supporting documentation for all estimates and accruals in the general ledger
- Prepares and performs detailed analysis of specific accounts, documenting trends for feedback to senior management
- Performs monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts including journal entries
- Assists with review and assessment of financial accounts including research of accounting matters and documentation of accounting position memorandums
Financial Reporting
- Prepares departmental (internal) monthly financial reporting for department/ budget managers, and provides guidance, where necessary, to managers for interpretation of budget-versus-actual variances, in accordance with month-end close deadlines
- Prepares financial statements (balance sheet, statement of operations, statements of cash flow and other reports) for external distribution, prepared in accordance with GAAP, and in compliance with external covenant/ reporting commitments
Audit Preparation
- Responsible for preparation and/ or review of audit schedules and coordinates deliverables to external auditors
Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting is required
- CPA designation is required
- Minimum 5 years of related experience in accounting, Big 4 public accounting experience preferable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of written communications proficiency
- Strong GAAP technical background and analytical skills required
- SEC experience is a plus
- Experience with the pharmaceutical, diagnostic or biotech industry is a plus, but not required
- Experience with Quickbooks is a plus
- Proficient in Excel
